Tiny

Sometimes we commit to doing something and for whatever reason, we don’t really feel like doing it or we aren’t capable of going all out. It might be that we’re feeling under the weather or just pressed for time. Doing anything is just a behavior. When it comes to behavior we will only do the behavior that is consistent with our self-image and identity. For us to keep doing a behavior we need to want to do it and we need to feel successful doing it.

Consistency

Consistency is key. By taking consistent action you let compounding work towards shaping a new version of yourself. It’s your choice to choose what you want to shape yourself into. But by being consistent, even if that means just showing up you let momentum run in your favor and compound on itself. If you keep your behavior tiny it’s easy to stay consistent and you can easily get up if you fall down and let it compound and continue to metamorphose into your desired self.

Momentum

Most if not all people want some sort of change. Often the change most people aim for is a big radical change or a highly transformative one. And they want that change now! They have their current situation and their desired situation and the gap might be big. Maybe it’s to go from no income to creating a $10k/mo business. Or maybe it’s to go from 65kg to 75kg of muscle or maybe lose 5kg of fat.

Metamorphosis

Butterflies are beautiful creatures, they go from a larva to a beautiful and colorful creature that’s able to fly. The transformative change from a larva to a butterfly is called metamorphosis. Humans have long been fascinated by metamorphosis and have hoped humans could do the same. Most people would say that humans can’t perform metamorphosis. In the physical sense, they’re probably right, from what I know we can’t go into a cocoon and grow a set of wings.

Procrastination

John wanted to start a business. He knew what he needed to do but he couldn’t get himself to do it. If he eventually did take action he would do it once or twice and then stop and let everything go to waste. It was devastating for him, here he was trying, but no matter how much he wanted to do it he could never get himself to take action. The more he tried but didn’t succeed to get himself to take action, the more painful it got.

Action

Most people want some sort of change. They might want to lose weight, gain muscle, eat better, sleep better, you name it, someone wants some change. Previously we came to the conclusion that ultimately most people want change because they want to change the state they’re in. In order to achieve this state change, people need to change their behavior. Everyone has probably attempted some new behavior to get that change, for example working out to lose weight, cutting calories, eating lots of greens, or signing up for a course.

Focus

The quality of your life is determined by your habitual states. In previous posts, I’ve covered both state management and how to control your state using your physiology. In those posts, I’ve defined that the way you feel at any moment of time is determined by the state you’re currently in. The two factors that control your state are physiology and focus. The best thing is that these two factors are completely controlled by you.

Physiology

The quality of your life is determined by your habitual states. In a previous post, I went through the concept of state management. In that post I defined the way you feel at any moment in time is determined by the state you’re currently in. There are two factors that control your state, physiology, and focus (psychology). The best part is that both these factors are completely controlled by internal forces within you.

One

Most people want or desire something, that something becomes a sort of change. Ultimately we want a state change which I covered in my post ‘state’. When it comes to people who want change, they usually want something bigger that requires changing some behavior, creating a habit, improving at an existing skill, or learning an entirely new skill. However, most people don’t achieve the change they set out to. Usually, they fail because they attempt to change too much too soon.

State

To get what you want you must know what you want, you must be specific. However, most of the time what we say we want is actually not what we really want, there are people who say they want a business and then there are people with businesses who no longer want their businesses. Some people say they want a successful business, others say a loving relationship, and yet others want friends.
